Dedication to high-level science achievement and teaching practice.

Sara Loughnane manages delivery of NCEA and International Baccalaureate science programmes at St Peter’s School, Cambridge. Lead teacher in the gifted and talented education area, she runs an inspiring scholarship biology programme, which has vastly improved the number of students attaining scholarship level.

Loughnane also runs the school’s three-day Eco Blitz camp, where students learn field investigation skills with support from a Lincoln University scientist. Students then visit Lincoln to continue the research.

Loughnane has developed resources that are being incorporated into the Science Learning Hub and is a leading figure in the Waikato Science Teachers Association. The WSTA’s Science Symposium, organised by Loughnane, is a hugely popular event with Waikato science educators, attracted by its high-caliber speakers.
