Dr Nina Scott’s research brings Mātauranga Māori to medicine, tangibly improving health outcomes for Māori.

A leading expert in the use of kaupapa Māori methodologies for health research with more than 30 peer reviewed articles to her name, Dr Scott’s latest achievement is the Harti Hauora Tamariki Study. Designed using the He Pikanga Waiora Framework (a widely-adopted co-design process developed by Dr Scott with the University of Waikato), the study sought to improve health outcomes for Māori children by providing a culturally-aligned service incorporating an electronic screening tool informed by whanau, data and experts. The programme was recently recognised as an outstanding innovation by the Health Round Table and there are plans to expand it into primary, maternity, cardiac and cancer care.
