Founder of the Outreach and Education team for Pūtahi Manawa and Manaaki Manawa, Dr. Anuj Bhargava is committed to bringing equity to our medical workforce.

A multi-award winning educator, Dr. Bhargava’s current role is the latest in a long and distinguished career. Maaori and Pacific people are over-represented in cardiac admissions, morbidity and mortality but under-represented in the medical workforce.

The Centre for Heart Research/Manaaki Manawa established its Centre for Research Excellence, Pūtahi Manawa, to try and address this inequity. Dr. Bhargava’s work has boosted the number of Māori and Pacific medical school graduates and researchers; helped researchers apply an equity and Te Tiriti lens to their work; supported early career teachers and drawn more Māori and Pacific students into tertiary education through participation in Science Spinners, Pūhoro STEMM, Amanaki STEM Academy and other events.

Dr. Anuj Bhargava is a 2023 finalist in the Science Spinners Science Teacher/Educator/Communicator Award
