A passionate advocate for our primary sector, Kerry is securing its future by pioneering a robust agribusiness programme for New Zealand secondary schools.

After growing up on her parents’ farm, Kerry studied at Lincoln, moved into teaching Ag/Hort Science at secondary school level and has for many years been the driving force behind the New Zealand Ag/Hort Teachers Association, creating resources, writing newsletters and organising conferences. Since 2014, she has spearheaded an innovative academic agribusiness programme, based at St Paul’s Collegiate School, with key partners from the agribusiness sector.

NCEA unit standards currently being trialed fall into four strands; Agri-science and Technology, Agri-innovation, Agri-management and Finance and Agri-marketing. The goal is to have an additional 2,000 students graduating from school to university agribusiness courses by 2020. The programme has been recognised in political circles as an exciting and essential component to meet our country’s future economic aspirations.
