Principal Scientist with DairyNZ, Dr. John Roche is in demand as a presenter, media spokesperson and mentor, juggling 3-4 presentations per month in addition to his science management workload. He has a reputation as a clear, logical, and engaging presenter, able to communicate complex scientific subjects in a way that can be easily understood. John takes a special interest in promoting accurate standards of scientific writing. He mentors colleagues writing up their work and is a Senior Section Editor for the Journal of Dairy Science, one of the world’s highest ranked agricultural science publications.

A strong advocate of science careers, John works actively to encourage students into tertiary study and find opportunities for students exhibiting potential to contribute significantly to the dairy industry. He also contributed to the development of DairyNZ’s Vision Matauranga strategy, focussing on opportunities to connect with iwi and engage Maori youth in dairy science.
