Dudley Bell’s technical and management expertise has been instrumental to outstanding scientific research outcomes at the University of Waikato.

A key example of his work is his role in developing the first fully functional electrofishing boat (Hiko Hi Ika), which has been integral to the production of many research reports on the status of freshwater fish species throughout the North Island since it was commissioned in 2003.

Currently Aquatic Team Leader, Dudley has facilitated research in a variety of terrestrial and marine environments throughout New Zealand and in Antarctica by advising on project set up, health and safety protocols and data collection methods to ensure robust results. His contribution has been vital for the success of over 100 post-graduate research projects and he has been cited as an author on four reviewed publications and acknowledged in many more. Up until 1997, Dudley also contributed to the progress of undergraduate study, through his supply of plant and animal materials for teaching work and the recruitment and management of technical staff. Dudley is valued as a calm and professional mentor to both staff and students.
